We use grids to organize space and bring order and consistency to our layouts. Each of our applications is created with an underlying grid structure. We align each element of our system to some aspect of the grid and use it as a way to manage contrast of scale in layout elements.

01

Standard grid

We always use six columns in vertical and horizontal layouts, which creates consistency across our entire system. When we have a larger left margin, we can place our power word when we need to use it in the composition. It also allows us to apply the logo in an easy way to align with the rest of the content.

Proportional scaling

The vertical and horizontal grids have been designed at 8.5x11 inches. However, they scale proportionally. If, for example, you are designing a large vertical billboard, you would still use six columns, scaling them proportionally. The same principle would apply to an application smaller than 8.5x11 inches, such as a banner ad.

Extreme vertical

The extreme vertical grid uses two columns and three rows. The reduced number of columns and rows allows for less crowded compositions when using limited space.

Extreme horizontal

The extreme horizontal grid uses four columns and a single row. The reduced number of columns and rows allows for less crowded compositions when using limited space.

01. Logo

Logo should be placed in alignment with the vertical columns. The logo should be scaled so that the wordmark is within a column. Always ensure that the logo is larger than our minimum size.

02. Type

Align type, including headline, subheadline, body copy, phrases, and other type elements, to the columns.

03. Graphic elements (arrows, pattern, numbers, icons)

The graphic elements could be customized to individual layouts and should align with the vertical columns.

04. Imagery

Align the edge of the image to any of the columns.
